Below are some of the FAQ’s we have received about the WINGS ® service and review of World Coins, Ancient Coins and Tokens and Medals
What service does WINGS ® provide?
Established in 2008, WINGS ® Coins reviews your World Coins, Tokens. Medals or Ancients that have been graded by PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS or ICCS (Canadian Grading Service) to determine if, in our opinion, they are “Premium Quality” or “Solid for the Grade” within the grade assigned to them by the third party grading service. If so, it will receive the WINGS ® Fraud Proof and Tamper Proof Gold Sticker. If the coin, token or medal is solid for the grade indicating a quality coin, then it will receive the WINGS® Fraud Proof and Tamper Proof Silver Sticker.
Items that are premium quality within the grade assigned to it by a third party grading service are generally worth more than the same item that is not premium quality for that grade. The WINGS® Gold Sticker makes it easy for you to identify, in our opinion, whether a certified world coin, token, medal or ancient is premium quality for the grade. The WINGS ® Silver Sticker makes it easy for you to identify, in our opinion, whether a certified world coin, token, medal or ancient is a quality item and a “solid grade” for that item.
WINGS® IS NOT A GRADING SERVICE! PLEASE CONTACT PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS or ICCS (Canadian Grading Service) TO HAVE YOUR COINS GRADED FIRST. THEY WILL THEN BE ELIGIBLE FOR OUR REVIEW SERVICES. THANK YOU.
Who is WINGS ®?
WINGS ® COINS, LLC., is a Florida limited liability company. WINGS ® is an acronym for World Identification and Numismatic Grading Service. The two managers are Lance Tchor who is the finalizer and Larry Michelson, Esq. who is responsible for the administration of the business. For a detailed background on the managers please refer to the section titled, “About WINGS ® Coins”.
How long has WINGS ® been in business?
WINGS ® has been in business since 2008 and was founded by Lance Tchor.
What World coins, tokens, medals and ancients are eligible for a WINGS ® sticker?
First the item you are submitting must been graded by PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS or ICCS. WINGS ® then will review any world coin, any token or medal (both world and US) or ancient.
WINGS ® does not verify U.S. coins.
What characteristics must a coin, token, medal or ancient have to qualify for a WINGS ® gold sticker?
Our team of experts and consultants shall determine if your coin, token, medal or ancient is of Premium Quality or Solid for the Grade based on the grade assigned to it by the grading service. If it is premium quality for the grade then we shall affix the WINGS ® Gold Sticker. If the item is not premium quality within the assigned grade but it is solid for the grade indicating a quality item then that item shall receive the WINGS® silver sticker.
What characteristics must a coin, token, medal and ancient have to qualify for a WINGS ® Silver Sticker?
A Silver sticker is a sticker that we add to those coins, medals, tokens or ancients that we believe are Solid for the Grade based on the grade assigned to it by one of the third party grading services.
Why do you have a Silver sticker?
This was based on demand from our dealers and customers and as a result of our independent survey. There was an overwhelming request that we offer a sticker that indicated Solid for the Grade using criteria similar to that used by CAC Coins with its green sticker that it uses on U.S. coins.
What is the difference between “Premium Quality” versus “Solid for the Grade”, within the assigned grade?
As with all grading there is a subjective side. A Premium Quality coin is one that is determined by WINGS ® to be of a higher quality then a similarly graded coin, token, medal or ancient within the assigned grade. Whereas, “Solid for the Grade” indicates that the item is a quality item but not quite up to the stringent standards necessary to be considered “Premium Quality”. A Premium Quality item is in our opinion a better item than one that is Solid for the Grade.
Our standards are not limited to the basic industry-wide accepted criteria; i.e., strike, luster, marks, and eye appeal. With our 450+ years of experience with our consulting staff and employees we deal with thousands of mints over hundreds of years in which the quality of the minting process is also a major factor that must be considered.
Will WINGS ® review both world tokens and medals and U. S. tokens and medals?
Yes, so long as they are sent to us in a slab from one of the 5 grading companies that we accept.
If a coin, token, medal, or ancient doesn’t receive a WINGS® gold or silver sticker, does this mean WINGS ® believes the item is over-graded?
No! There are many coins, tokens, medals and ancients that receive the correct grade from the grading services that would not qualify for a WINGS ® sticker. Some coins, tokens, medals and ancients are at the low end of the scale for the assigned grade, some at the middle end of the scale for the assigned grade (“Solid for the Grade”) and some may be at the high end of the scale for the assigned grade (Premium Quality).
Can I mix types of submissions?
Only one type of submission is allowed per Submission form.
How much does it cost to get a coin, token, medal or ancient reviewed by WINGS ®?
$12.50 for coins, tokens, medals and ancients for each item with a declared value up to $9,999.
$25.00 for each item with a declared value of $10,000 or more.
Does WINGS ® reviewing charges include shipping/insurance and handling charges?
No. Shipping/insurance and handling charges are in addition to the reviewing fees. See next question for more details. There is a $10 handling charge per Submission Order Form. Also, there is a $5 charge if you choose the alternate carrier.
How do I determine my return shipping/insurance costs?
Shipping rates may be located on the back of the WINGS ® Submission Form or on the WINGS® website. Shipping and insurance charges are calculated by the number of coins submitted and the total declared value of the submission.
Return shipping and insurance are required for each submission form. You may not combine shipping for multiple orders.
Please Note: Shipping and insurance charges are subject to change. Please contact us before submitting to ask for the latest charges or check this website. By submitting your items for review you agree to pay for the most recently published shipping and insurance charges as shown on this web site. These charges override any charges that may be printed on the back of a submission form.
What carrier should I utilize to mail my submissions to WINGS ®?
WINGS ® generally recommends sending your submissions via USPS Registered Insured Mail. For large value submissions contact us first to discuss.

Who are your reviewers? How many are there? How do we know that they are qualified?
The identity and number of reviewers are not disclosed. However, we only select a reviewer if he/she is qualified. In addition, we have hired consultants who have specialization in certain areas. All final determinations as to whether or not a coin receives a WINGS ® Gold or Silver sticker will be made by Lance Tchor. WINGS ® and its consultants have over 450 years of combined grading and trading experience.
